This guide will detail how to create a new account in Mixin Messenger.
Preparation
Before starting, please ensure:
- You have downloaded and installed Mixin Messenger
- You have paper and pen ready to record the mnemonic phrase
- You are in a safe and private environment
Creation Steps
1. Launch the App
When you first open Mixin Messenger, you will see the welcome screen.
2. Choose Create Account
Click the "Create New Account" button to start the account creation process.
3. Generate Mnemonic Phrase
The system will automatically generate a 12-word English mnemonic phrase for you.
Important Warning
The mnemonic phrase is the only way to recover your account and assets. If lost, you will permanently lose account access!
4. Save Mnemonic Phrase Securely
Best Practices:

- Write down all mnemonic phrases in order with paper and pen
- Check that the spelling is correct
- Store the paper in a safe place
- Make multiple backups and keep them separately
- Consider using waterproof and fireproof materials like metal plates
❌ What You Should Not Do:
- Do not take screenshots
- Do not copy to clipboard
- Do not send via chat software
- Do not store on internet-connected devices
- Do not share with anyone
5. Verify Mnemonic Phrase
To ensure you have saved the mnemonic phrase correctly, the system will ask you to select words in order for verification.
- The system will randomly ask you to select words at several positions
- Select the correct words according to your backup
- Continue after all are correct
6. Set PIN Code
Create a 6-digit PIN code:
- Used for daily transfers and sensitive operations
- It is recommended to use a combination that is not easy to guess
- Avoid using personal information such as birthdays
- Please remember the PIN code; if forgotten, you need to reset it using the mnemonic phrase
7. Enable Biometric (Recommended)
If your device supports it, it is recommended to enable biometric features:
- Fingerprint Recognition
- Facial Recognition
This makes it more convenient to unlock the app while maintaining security.
8. Complete Setup
Account creation is complete! Now you can:
- Set up your profile (avatar, nickname)
- View your Mixin ID
- Start adding friends
Account Information
Mixin ID
Each account has a unique Mixin ID, formatted like: 12345678
Uses:
- Other users can add you as a friend through this ID
- Used to receive transfers
- Your unique identifier on the Mixin network
Identity Number
You will also get an Identity Number, which is your unique identifier on the Mixin network.
Security Recommendations
Mnemonic Phrase Security
Physical Storage
- Use a safe for storage
- Consider a bank safe deposit box
- Fireproof and waterproof containers
Multiple Location Backups
- At least 2-3 backups
- Store in different locations
- Tell trusted people the storage location (not the content)
Regular Checks
- Ensure backups are still readable
- Verify the security of storage locations
PIN Code Security
- Do not use overly simple combinations (such as 123456, 888888)
- Change PIN code regularly
- Do not let others see when entering in public places
- Do not tell anyone your PIN code
Social Recovery (Optional)
Mixin Messenger provides social recovery as an additional security guarantee:
- Select 3-5 trusted contacts
- The system will share recovery keys with them
- If you lose your mnemonic phrase, you can request their help to recover

What if I forget my PIN code?
Re-import the account using the mnemonic phrase, then reset the PIN code.
Can the mnemonic phrase be changed?
No. Each account's mnemonic phrase is fixed, which is determined by blockchain technology characteristics.
Can I use it on multiple devices simultaneously?
Yes. Import the account on other devices using the mnemonic phrase.
